Vankadre Shantaram was the luminous star of cinema world. He has written his name in history by his hard-work, dedication and integrity to his work. He was not only a person but an institution in himself. He had sown the good seeds 97. V. Shantaram (The Film-maker) Vankadre Shantaram was the luminous star of cinema world. He in cinema, which are being harvesting today. V. Shantaram was born in 1901 at Kolhapur in Maharastra. From his childhood, he was not very interested in study but had a niche for acting. So at the age of 13 he admitted himself to a famous Gandharva Drama Company. He started with menial job and rose up to acting. His cine-guru was Baburao Pendhar. He produced his first film ‘Ayodhya Ka Raja’ which was produced just after the first talking film ‘Aalam Aara’. The heroin of that film was Durga Khote. Shantaram always preferred dialogues which effects human conscience in various fields. During freedom struggle movement he made a film ‘Udaykal' to arouse Indians thinking for freedom movement. In 1955 he made a film ‘Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje’ which became very famous. His famous films are Mother India, Payasa, Navrang, Geet Gaya Patharon Ne. He made a film “Do Ankhen Barh Hath” which was based on jail reform and it was praised very much and was awarded ‘Gold Bear’ in International Berlin Film festival. He made almost 82 films. He was conferred with Padmashree. He died in 1990 leaving a cultural heritage for India. |
