Ramananda Sagar was the famous film and T.V. Serial maker. Actually he was the maker of mythological serials and had gained immense popularity in India.

Ramananda was born in 1917 in Lahore. His father was Shri D. N. Chopra. He got an educated and conducive environment for study and knowledge. He did his M.A. and started his career as journalist. He joined with magazine ‘Danik Milap’. In 1944 he became assistant director of ‘Shalimar Studio’. He also fought for freedom struggle movement during his time.

Ramananda also wrote plays, like ‘Aur Mar Gaya Insan’. He also directed many films. His first film was ‘Mehman’. He directed and produced hit films like ‘Badi Bahu, Ankhen, Zindgi, Aarzoo’. His T.V. serials are Ramayana, Krishna etc. which were famous and hits. During the time of these mythological serials people used to sit quietly in front of the T.V. screen after taking bath etc. The serial was like a worship and people saw these mythological stories with devotion. Really Ramayana was made lively by him. Ramananda will always be remembered for these mythological serials. He was honoured with many awards. He was also associated with Puna University, National Film Development Authority and many respectable government posts.

His last T.V. serial was Sai Baba in 2003. He died on 21 December 2005 at the age of 87 in Mumbai. The Govt, of India honoured Sagar with Padma Shri in 2000.
