Pilavulakandi Thekkeparambil Usha is the best runner of not only of India, but Asia also. She has emerged as the most out-standing woman athlete. She has brought glory to our country in the field of sports.

R T. Usha was born in a small village of Payyoli (Kerala) on 27th June 1964. She joined a sports school at Cannanore where she got a wonderful sports trainer 0. R Nambiar. Usha’s sports fate shined with help, guidance and encouragement from her coach; Usha’s success story begins from 1982 Asiad games in which she won two gold medals in 100 metres and 200 metres race. R T. Usha kept the flag of India flying high by winning 4 gold and 1 silver medals in the Track and Field events. She has also won the six medals at a single championship in Jakarta (1985).

In 1986 Asiad, Usha got the maximum number of Gold medals by a single athlete in a single International meet. In 1984, at Los Angles Olympics, Usha slightly missed a medal by 1/100 of a second. Anyway she has mastery over 100 metre, 200 metre, 400 metre, 400 hurdle and 4 x 400 relay runs. She won 3 gold medals, 3 silver and 1 bronze in 4th Asia Track and Field Championship. She has been awarded Aijuna Award’ and ‘Padmashri’ by Government of India. Presently she is employed as a Welfare Officer in Southern Railway. She has established “Usha School of Athletics”. This school will focus on coaching local students.
