Jayant Vishnu Narlikar is a famous mathematician and writer of fictitious stories for children. He popularised science by applying scientific theories in day to day life.

Dr. Narlikar was born on 19th July 1938 in Maharashtra. His childhood education took place from Kolhapur and later joined in Banaras and Cambridge Universities. In Cambridge, he did his research work with famous astrologer Prof. Fred Hayal. He gave a new and simple explanation for Newton’s theory of Gravitation in the auditorium of Royal Society of London. This explanation astonished the scientists of the world. He was awarded with Adam Award from Cambridge University at the young age of 30. Dr. Narlikar also carried out research on black holes. He wrote many scientific stories to popularise science. He has been awarded with ‘Indira Gandhi Award’, ‘Kalinga Award’ and ‘Padma Bhusan’.

He has also received second highest civilian honor, Padma Vibhushan in 2004, and Maharashtra Bhushan Award for the year 2010.

He is a recipient of Bhatnagar Award, M.P Birla Award and the Prix Jules Jonsen of the French Astronomical Society.
