Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata established Air India 1948. Under his Chairmanship Air-India was ranked among the finest airlines in the world. He was an institution builder too. He was one of the stars of Indian sky, who decorated India by his passion and vision.
J. R. D. Tata was born on 29th July 1904 to father R. D. Tata and mother Suni, a French woman. They lived in France near Eiffel Tower. He got school education in France and received a degree in engineering from England. He came back to India and married beautiful Thelli in 1930. Then he became President of Tata sons.
He got the license of pilot and then bought a plane in London. After one year of getting license, he established a great aeroplane service, Tata Air Lines in 1933 which later on was renamed as Air India in 1948 and J. R. D. Tata was its Chairman. During his life time, Tata son’s had established many industries.
J. R. D. Tata was a great patriot. He supported his country in his own way. He was a good friend of Jawaharlal Nehru, as both of them believed in India’s industrialization. Seeing his contribution to India, Indian Government awarded him with Bharat Ratna in 1992.
During 1970 he was attracted towards Arvind Ashram and visited it many times. In his old days he used to spent his vacations in Switzerland and died there in 1993.
