Rajneesh was a spiritual leader and “Budha purush” with a difference. He had established ‘Osho Commun’, which attracted a crowd of spiritual persons from all over the world.
He was born in a Jain family in Madhya Pradesh. He was an Assistant Professor of Philosophy in Jabalpur University. Later on, he left his job and started public lecturing. He was an enlighted person and many people thronged to his evening discourses. He initiated the Sanyas International Movement to create spiritual awareness in the world.
He began to be known as “Osho”, a Japanese word which means enlightened person. He declared himself as Bhagwan Rajneesh. His approach of self-realisation was unique. All religious and spiritual leaders teach to check and control desires through intellect, while his philosophy is against the suppression of our desires and feelings.
He established Osho-Ashram in Pune in 1974. He came to be known world wide, when he set up a 64000 acre Rajneeshpuram’ at Oregeon, in U.S.A. His meditation techniques and Osho-literature are still popular among his followers. In Japan, an ‘Osho Pyramid’ has been built in Akeno Village by devotees. The I size of its hall is 225 square meters and is very appropriate for meditation. The atmosphere of the hall invites person for meditation itself.
The Professor of Philosophy, Rajneesh wrote nearly 600 books and Osho literature. His books ‘From Sex to Meditation’ and ‘Face to Face with Love’ are famous. He blended sensual pleasures with spiritual quest. The man who could claim half a million followers and 500 meditation centres across the globe. He ook Samadhi in 1990 at the age of 58.
