Amitabh Bachchan is the most popular and the Angry Young Man of the Hindi films. His multifarious personality has proved through acting and leadership.

He was born in 1943 at Allahabad. He is the son of Hindi poet Harivanshrai Bachchan. After passing out from college, he was working as an executive in a shipping firm at Kolkata. This former stage actor, radio announcer and company executive, gave up his lucrative job to satisfy his urge for acting. He started his film career in the film ‘Saat Hindustani’ written and directed by Khwaja Ahmed Abbas. Then he worked in Anand, Namak Haram, Zanjeer. He gives the credit of his success to his wife Jaya Bachchan, who is also a great actress.

Amitabh Bachchan contested and won the election for Parliament from Allahabad constituency in 1984. After a short tenure in ! politics, he resigned from the parliament in the j wake of Befors gun deal. He has established his own company ‘Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd.’ for searching and encouraging new latents in the field of entertainment. His company co-sponsored “The Miss World Beauty Pageant” 1996 held at Bangalore, but slipped into huge amount of debt. British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) also made a film on him. His wax statue has been installed in Tussaud’s Wax Museum in London which is a great honour for him. Currently he is engaged as T.V. anchor programme in popular G.K. serial “Kaun Banega Crorepati”. He has worked in many famous films like Sholay, Coolie, Naseeb, Kabhi Kabhi, Silsila, Amar Akbar Anthony, Trishul in which his roles were memorable. His recent films are Bagbaan, Sirkar, Black. Satyagrah etc.
